Specialty rubber, also known as specialty synthetic rubber, refers to synthetic rubber with special properties and uses that can withstand harsh conditions. Examples include fluoroelastomers, which are resistant to temperatures of 300℃, strong corrosion, ozone, light, weather, radiation, and oil; silicone rubber, which is resistant to temperatures as low as -100℃ and as high as 260℃, has low temperature dependence, low viscous flow activation energy, and physiological inertness; and acrylate rubber, which is heat-resistant, solvent-resistant, oil-resistant, and has good electrical insulation. Other specialty rubbers include polyurethane rubber, polyether rubber, chlorinated polyethylene, chlorosulfonated polyethylene, propylene oxide rubber, and polysulfide rubber. Each of these possesses unique and excellent properties that meet specific requirements beyond the capabilities of general-purpose rubbers. They play an important role in national defense, industry, cutting-edge science and technology, and healthcare.
